sorcière des herbes

just a short up-date. but actually there is little to say. not much is happening here in vienna.

d is now a herbalist (kräuterhexe). since weeks she is trying to grow basil and all that stuff. alas, the weather gods were not in favour of her undertaking and so they are still very very small. Monsieur Le Bonheur has a garden. That's why. Funny all this is. Many bugs and slugs. iiii. d has bought a funny little plant, too. But the slugs liked it so much that after a couple of hours it was all gone. and d very angry with them. There is also weed (unkraut if your are not sure what i mean). A special one, too that grows really fast and is a climbing plant. Hui it's almost up in the sky. maybe a picutre some day.

d has also decided that even IF the lazy herbal stuff should eventually decide to grow: d won't be able to eat them. that would be too cruel.

.:. .:. .:.

foundations of physics symposium

another conference. this time in good old vienna. organized by the zeilinger-mafia. hui. they talk a lot about little math. it's not so clear to me why struggeling so much with quantum mechanics.
but anyways.
d made a poster. very pretty. and was able to explain it to Gerard 't Hooft. noble prize winner. i must say i regard this as a little cool. and i also must admit that - well- although d hates all the excitement about noble prize winners - well - it is cool to explain your work to them. unfortunately he was not convinced of emergent noncommutative gravity and said that this seemed to be too beautiful to really work out. hhmmm. well. you can't have everything, i guess.

anything else?

aja. d learned about publication fees. how weird. having worked out the world formula and all that (austrians like to be irionic. however there is always a grain of truth somewhere) , it was - of course - accepted by physics review letters.

einschub:
i proposed to send the word formula paper that solves everything to physics review letters. the editors wrote back that the results are not interesting enough for a broader community and anyways they are not imporant enough. i proposed that we should complain. they gave it to the referees. and of course i got accepted.
einschub ende.

now we got the bill. geeeeez. a couple of hundres of dollars. we were quite surprised cause the normal high energy physics journals don't charge you for publishing YOUR work. and what was even more hhmm difficult. it seems that the department does not have money for such luxuries. and also we did not get support of our group leader. luckily the austrian science fund seems to pay for that. so the world need not do without its formula. thankfully!
