Hambourg, mon amour....
Last week-end: Alex and me spent 2 1/2 wonderful days in Hamburg.
ohhh....Hamburg..... how beautiful! and also Hamburg people. Really beautiful compared to other towns i have visited lately :-)
and, of course, what a green town. Vienna is a desert made of concrete compared to HH.
Klaus and Nancy were our hosts. We are very grateful. Thank you soooooo much.
To be honest, it was somewhat strange to be there again, after so many months. Walking through Schanze and St. Pauli. All so familiar and still you are there as a tourist. Once being in Hamburg, I felt how much I actually miss it.
It's the first time in four years that I am not constanstly travelling between two countries. Which has some advantages of course....but then on the other hand... no little cultural clash between me and the Germans :-) or others. Austria is definitely a very small country with narrow-minded Austrians living there. I begin to think (again) that after three years it will be high time to go abroad again.
Hamburg nightlife was again pretty shocking. I have to admit that i have not learned to love Reeperbahn and Hamburger Berg yet And probably never will. But of course, seeing the new Pudel was definitely worth going there.
I heared that HERA (the accelerator at DESY) has been shut down. So if you want to actually see an accelerator (and i learned that some people don't even care !) i guess, now there's a good chance to get down to the tunnel.
How nice it was, grilling in Wohlers Park. Drinking beer. Having dinner at BOKs. Hmmm. Eating crèpes. Walking down the Elbe. Harbour. Cute houses. Posh houses. Elbstrand.
And of course, seeing friends. Time was passing way too fast. I think I will have to come back.
....
So, Monday morning. Back in Vienna. 36 degrees. We should have stayed in hamburg. You get out of the building and there's this wind blowing. You are diving in a bath of hot dry air. It's hard to breathe. You get out of the shadow. Sun is shining. Today. A true desert.
Where is my camel? I want to ride home.
And look at the people! How they try to manage every-life. We need tents where to rest over lunch break and we should drink sweet thé à la menthe. Don't move between noon and 4 pm.
I go back to work. Sitting in my office. All by myself. Me and the computations. Air condition. Global warming? I am significant part of its origin today.
